Tin Plate

Tin plate consists of  very-low-thickness steel, cold-rolled, and coated on both sides by a tin layer applied by means of an electrolytic process. The coating mass and the surface finish turns it into a material suitable for a broad range of products, while at the same time allows for different formats and sizes in containers (cans), which can be decorated with attractive designs.

Uses

Given its composition, it is the optimum material for manufacturing containers, especially for the food industry

Advantages

Recycling : Tin plate is a 100% reusable. That’s why it is the most recycled and ecologically friendly container material in the world.

Opacity: It prevents the degradation of food caused by light.

Long life: Natural products canned in tin plate containers last for long periods without losing any of their organoleptic properties or their nutritional value. Preservatives are not required to prolong food life, because this is achieved through the canning process (vacumm and esterilization)

Useful Information

Surface finish: The standard surface finish of electrolytic tin plate is “Stone Finish” (ST). So, customers should specifically point out whether they require a different kind of finish, such as “Brilliant Finish” (B) or “Half-Matte Finish”.  The different surface finishings are defined by: surface rugosity of the base sheet; tempering grade;  coating mass; and whether the tin plate has received melting treatment or not.

Oiling: The tin plate surface is treated with a very thin oil layer evenly distributed from 3 to 17 mg/m2 each side.

Quality

First quality:  Tin plate free of stains, blows, rust, scratches, waving, and burring (95%) so that it is adequate for lithography and varnishing.

Second quality: It does not comply with all the requirements for first quality, except for thickness and coating.

Third quality: It presents more important defects than second quality tin plate, such as welding traces, tin-free areas, and rusting among others.
